Krishnadevaraya

Krishnadevaraya ,
before he became the king of Vijayanagara was once being chased by his enemies and he took refuge at a Brahmin's home. The Brahmin hid him under the paddy cellar and the enemy soldiers made a vain search around the Brahmin's house and returned. Krishnadevsraya profously thanked the poor man for saving his life,  and promised to reciprocate.Later when he became the King, he came and offered his Kingdom at the feet of the Brahmin and agreed to obey any command he makes , for a moment.
The Brahmin immediately ordered that, at all street corners, stone chisled tubs must be installed and the general public can fill it with water , porridge and waste vegetable to feed the stray cattle. Krishnadevaraya implemented this. One such Rock stone carved Tub is snapped at Sringeri, near the TTD guest house.Even now people offer porridge, rice water etc and all the stray cattle quench their thirst and hunger from these. .A legacy of our Dharma based rulers.
