This day, the 7th of August

This day, the 7th of August!
These precious photos & the light patterns in them!
This astounding story by the photographer Anjali Singh!
Oh wow!

With Anjali’s permission, I am sharing them today, on Aug 7th - the date on which, 29 years ago in 1993, Swami Chinmayananda's mortal remains returned to New Delhi from San Diego.

Do read what Anjali writes about how the photos were taken, and about the unique light patterns that you see in the photos.

Horripilating experience!!! Jai Gurudev!

The Sublime Mahasamadhi of a Saint
by Anjali Singh

After returning from the Sidhbari May camp 1993, Gurudev had to wait for two hours at the Delhi airport lounge before he could change flights. This turned out to be my last meeting with him. “You said I would have rare photographs on August 7, but you are not even taking me with you!” I said.

He affirmed, “Yes. You would have rare photographs.” This was his last sentence to me before his wheelchair was taken into the security section, after which I never saw Gurudev again.

He had called me to his room in Sidhbari eleven months to a year in advance and found a way to communicate and impress upon my mind the date of August 7.

It so happened that his body arrived in New Delhi on August 7, 1993 after his Mahasamadhi in San Diego on August 3, 1993.

Today is 29 years since these photos were taken. Among the 14 ‘rare’ photos that I got to take on August 7, 1993, are the following three. Each of the 14 had a different light pattern behind his head. There were NO such lights placed in the shed. There was NO digital photography.

Today, a pratima of Gurudev adorns that very spot in the Samadhi Mandir at Chinmaya Centre of World Understanding, New Delhi.

(From the forthcoming Book 6 of the book series: On Higher Flights with Swami Chinmayananda.)

NOTE: Anjali's son, television producer & anchor Jujhar Singh adds:
"I was in fact on the flight that brought His body to Delhi on 7 August 1993. The date is etched in my memory. The play of lights in these photographs is remarkable. There was just normal lighting there. No white or blue shafts of lights - as have appeared in these photographs. No other pics taken that day have these shafts of light. These pics really are inexplicable."
